Identity Screening series (2017)

For this series, Shadi revisits her subject matter from her Universal Identity and Examination series which centered around the fluidity of identity and how it is dynamically shaped by everyday interactions of individuals. As in the Universal Identity series, this series also features hybrid portraits constructed from different body parts of different people from various nationalities, genders and ages, but this time, she presents them as twelve 8” x 10” two-color silkscreen prints on paper, which were created using the scanned images of negative collages that she had previously made for the Universal Identity series. The images play with our assumptions and the ways that we tend to frame an identity without considering the complex and nuanced ways that it is actually formed.
